The Nevins showroom interior design not only pushes boundaries of the urban fabric, but disregards them completely. Soft finishes against the raw materials of The Mart in Chicago and natural elements immerse visitors in an environment unlike any they have encountered before. Much like a fresh bloom bursting through the cracks of a concrete sidewalk, an explosion of floral welcomes visitors into the showroom.
The first Nevins product was a planter, so in designing their first Chicago showroom, Kuchar paid homage to Nevins’ roots with an experiential design and inspired material palette to celebrate their past, present, and future. We designed the entry of the showroom to be set back from the corridor, creating deep planters to pique interest as one walks along the halls of the Mart during NeoCon. Nevins’ furniture pieces and planters are nestled within a lush garden of live, dried, and faux plants. To help bring our floral explosion to life, we partnered with local designer AK Floral for all of the live and dried installations in the showroom.
We introduced additional layers of material and form to complement and celebrate the massive installation of florals and highlight the furniture in the showroom. The entry is wrapped by a wallcovering composed of pressed and preserved plants that serve as a grounding backdrop against the vibrancy of the planters. The metal mesh archway welcoming guests into the showroom takes formal inspiration from a garden trellis, and allows for a unique layering effect with the gradient signage, the floral wallcovering at the entry, and views into the showroom.
Upon walking through the archway and metal mesh tunnel, which is reminiscent of a birdcage, visitors are greeted by the stunning hospitality bar. We designed the gleaming wave of tile that arches over the island to mimic water that one might stumble upon in a secret garden. The glossy tile and polished stone paired with the antiqued mirror niches really shine in contrast to the raw concrete floors, ceilings, and columns of the showroom.
Along the interior perimeter of the showroom, we designed additional concrete planters, allowing Nevins to continue to highlight their furniture against a dense floral backdrop. The foliage is not just confined to the planters along the wall, but also bursts from the columns, We love the editorial effect that these elements bring to the showroom and how they beautifully frame each vignette of furniture.
The sophisticated whimsy of a secret garden allowed us to select some really unique fixtures and finishes for the showroom. From the birdcage pendants over the marble conference table, to the pixelated floral rug under the sectional, each of these elements bring a layer of thoughtful delight to this space!
We are so grateful to the Nevins team for their trust in our vision. We loved collaborating with their team to design them a unique and showstopping space to highlight their products!
